PRIDE MEDIA and HIGH TIMES are seeking a Human Resources Director to lead a best-practices Human Resources function. The Human Resources Director is responsible for partnering with our senior leadership team to create and deliver on the company’s people strategy. This role will fully own the Human Resources function. Pride Media includes Out magazine, The Advocate, Plus magazine, PRIDE.com, and Out Traveler. Those with an indefatigable passion for the Pride Media mission of serving LGBTQ people will be most successful.  High Times is the definitive resource for all things cannabis. From cultivation and legalization, to entertainment and culture, High Times has been the preeminent source for cannabis information since 1974.



  • Collaborate with leaders to identify headcount strategy and needs. Advise leaders on organizational structure, headcount planning, and promotion/salary planning. 
  • Advise managers on employee relations and performance management practices. Drive strategic growth processes within the organization, such as the annual competency benchmarks, talent review process, and succession planning. 
  • Train managers to coach and discipline employees, and advise on employee relations issues. 
  • Maintain human resource information system that meets organization's personnel information needs.
  • Maintain the Employee Handbook, including: policies, procedures, and programs. 


  • Administer benefit programs including health, dental, life, FSA, PTO, 401(k), leaves of absence, and employee assistance.
  • Administer and process payroll in a professional and confidential manner.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of programs, policies, guidelines, and procedures, recommending revisions as well as new plans that are cost-effective and consistent with compensation trends and corporate objectives.
  • Assist management in the annual review, preparation, and administration of the organization's wage and salary program.
  • Oversee company benefits plan design and perk programs, immigration compliance. 
  • Continually review (and make recommendations to management for improvement of) our policies, procedures and practices on personnel matters. 
  • Lead recruiting and oversee on-boarding and coaching. 
  • Help management craft job descriptions and execute key personnel placements.

  • 5+ year Human Resource experience. 
  • Exceptionally strong organizational and time management skills, including the ability to interface with all levels of employees. 
  • Proven experience creating Performance Management structure, creating on-boarding materials, creating on-boarding structure. 
  • Understanding of LGBTQ culture and challenges faced by LGBTQ employees and their families
  • Strong employee relations, conflict resolution and facilitation skill-set: ability to gain trust and credibility with employees at all levels and effectively manage difficult situations. 
  • Creative thinker and problem solver who thrives in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment. 
  • Ability to multitask, juggling multiple projects & campaigns, as well as supporting multiple Business Development Managers.

PRIDE MEDIA is building an audience growth team to drive best-in-class digital publishing practices within its editorial operation. The director reports to the head of Editorial. The vision is one of deep and meaningful collaboration between Editorial and Analytics teams — with the shared goal of producing content that resonates with our audience in the right format and at the right time — and, hence, delivering substantial audience growth. This role and function will serve all of Pride Media’s digital properties: out.com, advocate.com, pride.com, hivplusmag.com, outtraveler.com and chill.us.

We’re looking for an audience growth guru to build and manage this team, and to lead the process of establishing reporting and analyzing editorial across all platforms. In this role, you will work closely with the digital editorial team to support and fuel the growth of our audience through reporting, testing, making recommendations, and establishing best practices.

  • Build a foundation  for Pride Media’s growth and analytics team.

  • Offer insights: Analyze our content and partner with our writers, editors, and creatives to make informed content decisions.

  • Report what matters: Monitor weekly performance to ensure we are successful.

  • Test everything: Conduct A/B and multivariate tests and analyze results to optimize content and establish best practices across all platforms.

  • Partner with development team on new web designs and product features with goal of audience growth and retention.

  • Establish SEO best practices and track progress across all digital properties.

  • Grow email subscriber lists and oversee email for all of Pride Media’s properties.

  • Inform strategy: Craft strategy to grow Pride Media’s properties across existing and emerging channels.

  • Content syndication: Oversee implementation and management of all content syndication partner relationships.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Finance, or other quantitative fields.

  • Minimum 4+ years experience in a similar role at an established digital media company.

  • Ability to maneuver Microsoft Excel in your sleep.

  • Deep experience with web and social analytics including Chartbeat, Google Analytics, comScore and Sprout Social.

  • Passion to stay current on latest technologies and trends in audience development, retention and analytics.

  • Ability to use data to support or refute a hypothesis.

  • Excellent communicator who can digest complicated data and form actionable steps and initiatives.

  • Must thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment and possess a strong ability to adapt, multitask and manage multiple deadlines at once.

  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with our editors, writers, executive team and sales team.

Pride Media offers qualified, college-level students the opportunity to participate in quarterly, uncompensated internships available in our offices in Los Angeles and New York City. In general, most internships last for 3 months, at 10-16 hours per week. See basic internship descriptions and locations below. The Graphic Design Intern will have the opportunity to work closely with the marketing and design team, gaining hands on experience designing in a corporate setting. Interns will be involved in a variety of creative tasks including, but not limited to, creative brainstorms, maintaining internal brand collateral, photo-research, creative mocks for marketing presentations, layout design, etc.

The most qualified intern candidates will be college students studying Graphic Design with a focus on marketing, advertising and social media. We're looking for dedicated, committed candidates that have an interest in the LGBTQ market. Additionally, interns should be efficient in Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office (specifically Powerpoint), detail oriented, able to multitask and capable of working in a fast paced environment.


The Digital Media Intern will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the design and production of large-scale, ad-supported websites including Out.com, Advocate.com, and OutTraveler.com. Interns will be involved with a wide variety of tasks including wire framing, prototyping, preparation of mockups, and final Q/A. Interns will gain real-world insight in the development of high-traffic web sites from initial concept to final launch.

The most qualified intern candidates will be college students studying Digital Media with a major focus on web design as it relates to news, advertising and social media. We're looking for dedicated, committed candidates that have an interest in the LGBTQ market. Additionally, interns should have basic familiarity with the Adobe Creative Suite. Any HTML or coding skills are a plus.


The Integrated Marketing Intern will have the unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience with both print and digital advertising. Interns will participate in sales and marketing meetings and work directly with those who are experienced in the field. Interns will be involved with many tasks including conducting research, competitive analysis, preparing media kits, planning and staffing advertiser events (Pride Media Events, OUT 100, etc.).

Interns will work alongside marketing managers in organizing, researching and executing long-term projects or special marketing initiatives.

The most qualified applicants will be college students with a career focus in advertising and marketing, with interest and skills in the print, digital and social media medium. We're looking for dedicated, committed candidates that have an interest in the LGBTQ market. Additionally, the candidate is detail-oriented, able to multitask, and capable of working independently. Familiarity with blogging, wikis, and social media is a plus.


Editorial internships are offered in Los Angeles for Advocate.com, which includes the opportunity to work with our partner site geared toward LGBTQ millennials, Pride.com. Interns will play an active role in the day-to-day production of online editorial, including content gathering, research, reporting, editing, and more. Writing assignments may be possible, depending upon qualifications, but cannot be guaranteed. Interns are invited to join daily editorial planning meetings and will work closely with editors, and photo department, and other staff to complete both assigned projects and stories of the intern’s choosing. Preferred editorial intern candidates will have a related field of study and a career interest in journalism or publishing. Those with published clips or editorial roles in print or digital publications, including school papers and magazines, are encouraged to apply. Excellent writing, communication, and organizational skills are required.
